Rezidence TIC #3: Dominika Sobolewska a Michalina Kostecka

Sobolewska is an artist, curator, exhibition designer, and academic lecturer, currently leading the Interactive Spatial Design Laboratory at the Faculty of Interior Architecture, Design and Stage Design at the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland. Her work focuses on creating interactive installations and experimental projects, particularly for public spaces. A central theme in her work is fostering a dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. The objects she creates often take the form of small architectural structures, designed to invite and encourage deeper interaction from those who encounter them.

During her residency in Brno, Dominika Sobolewska, in collaboration with Michalina Kostecka and Karin Písaříková, will undertake an immersive investigation into the pollution of our environment by plastics.

She plans to combine her artistic practice with research, creation, and public discussions. Unconventional food preparation will provide an opportunity to deepen techniques for visualising problems and foster a richer dialogue with Michalina Kostecka and Karin Písaříková. The research will be the cornerstone of the collaborative activities, focusing on the impacts of plastic pollution on the environment and exploring its social, ecological, and cultural dimensions. This research will inform the artistic process and guide the selection of materials and conceptual frameworks. Creatively, it will push boundaries by experimenting with food and table decorations that challenge perceptions of plastic. By integrating research, creation, and dialogue, Dominika Sobolewska aims to use art as a catalyst for environmental awareness and social transformation.

The PLASTSUPPER / performance
Thursday October 2024 / 19.00
Industra, Lazaretní 9

The Plastsupper is a TIC residency project featuring the artists Dominika Sobolewska and Michalina Kostecka from Wroclaw, along with Brno's guest artist Karin Pisarikova. The project explores the relationship between humans and plastics through sensory and interactive experiences, highlighting how plastic has permeated our lives and nature.

The highlight of the project will be a public dinner where food will imitate macroplastics, and the decor will reflect this theme. The goal is to spark a discussion about plastic dependence and its ecological consequences. The artists combine their perspectives to reconsider what is natural today and how plastic influences our lives.
