The residency project for international artists in the Brno-North district was established to provide a space for creativity, reflection, and interaction between contemporary artists and the local community and environment. We welcome artists-in-residence who work primarily in the visual arts but are also interested in interdisciplinary approaches, exploring areas like moving image, performance, literature, and audio, and conceptualising the visual arts in an intermedia context. We value diversity and inclusion, inviting artists from various cultural and geographical backgrounds to participate. During the 2-3 week residency, artists will be provided with a residential apartment and a dedicated space to showcase their work. In addition, we will facilitate opportunities for them to connect and collaborate with local colleagues, communities, and institutions in Brno. Our aim is to create an environment where artists can fully immerse themselves in their creative process while drawing inspiration from the local culture and community. The residency will culminate in a public performance and presentation of the artist's work to college or high school students with an art focus.

Yeonwoo Chang

An artist based in Dresden, Vienna, and Seoul. Her artistic practice explores physical and spiritual themes that transcend history, craft, culture, and nature. Recently, her work has focused on the political implications of craft, particularly through ceramics. For Chang, ceramics serves as a medium to reflect on issues related to natural resources, post-colonialism, and craft, contributing to a discourse on local and contemporary art within a non-Western context.

The collective of artists associated with Galeria Szaber in Krakow has been active since 2020. Describing their approach, they say, "We don’t shout when things go wrong; instead, we try to butter both sides of the bread to make sure it lands on the floor. We create problematic exhibitions disguised as pure nonsense aesthetics, guided by systematicity, humility, dynamism, and finality—the latter to help us stick to the former. We lay claim to emotions and plunder everything that can be carried away. We strive to keep the vibrations coherent within the framework we’ve set for ourselves, embracing a light romance on the edge."

Dominika Sobolewska and Michalina Kostecka

Sobolewska is an artist, curator, exhibition designer, and academic lecturer, currently leading the Interactive Spatial Design Laboratory at the Faculty of Interior Architecture, Design and Stage Design at the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland. Her work focuses on creating interactive installations and experimental projects, particularly for public spaces. A central theme in her work is fostering a dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. The objects she creates often take the form of small architectural structures, designed to invite and encourage deeper interaction from those who encounter them.
